ZoomInfo is one of the largest sales databases in the world. If sales teams are calling your work number or emailing you out of the blue, there is a good chance your details are in it. Here is how to ask ZoomInfo to remove them, and what to do if the simple route does not work for you.
ZoomInfo is a US-based company that sells business contact data to sales and marketing teams. Its customers can search for people by job title, company or location and see work email addresses and direct phone numbers. Profiles are built from a range of sources, including public websites and data gathered through ZoomInfo's own products and partners.
The code is sent to the email address ZoomInfo holds, which is often an address from a job you have left. If you cannot receive it, write to ZoomInfo's privacy team instead, using the contact details in its privacy policy. Say that you object to the use of your personal data for direct marketing and ask for it to be erased, and give only the details needed to find your record.
Your name, work email address and direct phone number are personal data. You have an absolute right to object to their use for direct marketing, and in many cases a right to have them erased. Companies based outside the UK can still be subject to UK data protection law when they process the details of people in the UK.
When a company acts on your objection, it should keep a minimal record so that your details are not added again. New sources can still bring them back, especially after you change role, so it is worth checking again every few months.
Go to the Privacy Center linked from ZoomInfo's privacy policy, enter the work email address it holds for you, enter the code it sends, and choose the option to delete your information.
ZoomInfo says it gathers business contact details from public websites, from data partners, and from a contributor community of people who share their business contacts in exchange for free access to its tools. Read our full explanation.
Write to ZoomInfo's privacy team using the contact details in its privacy policy. Object to the use of your data for direct marketing, ask for it to be erased, and give only the details needed to find your record.
Under UK law, a company must normally respond within one calendar month of receiving your request.
ZoomInfo is one of many. ColdStop Pro sends formal requests to ZoomInfo, Apollo, Lusha, Cognism, RocketReach and more than 20 other sales databases on your behalf, deals with the replies, follows up with any that do not respond, and reports every outcome. Plans start at £29.
